FWCC gets shelters for survivors of domestic violence and rape

21 Jan, 2019

The Fiji Women Crisis Centre has got their new shelters for survivors of domestic violence and rape.

Centre Coordinator, Shamima Ali says the shelters will be based in Ba, Labasa and Suva.

Ali says the shelters in Ba and Labasa are emergency shelters for domestic violence survivors, whereas Suva will be for young women who have been sexually abused in their own homes.

“We want to support them to peruse their career and education so that they are not left out on the streets or go back to the abusive home where they are open to more exploitation.”

Ali says 3 million dollars has been invested in the project which is funded by the Australian government.
