FWCC condemns sermon

11 Oct, 2017

THE Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre has condemned a New Methodist Church pastor in Macuata who told villagers of Nabunikavula that women were not chasers for their grog sessions.

FWCC co-ordinator Shamima Ali labelled such comments as insulting, adding that it belittled women in the village.

“Everyone is entitled to their religious beliefs and have the right to practise whatever faith they have,” she said.

“No religion should offend these rights, meaning that words used and doctrines taught should not be offensive to people of other religion.

“The statements made in this sermon referring to women as sex objects used to gratify men’s sexual urges after their grog sessions is baseless as they lack figures and facts and neither have members of this church worked in the community to know the reality of the matter. These sorts are not grounded on sound research and theology.”
