Regional Training Program, Oct-Nov 2019

7 Oct, 2019

The FWCC Regional Training Programme (RTP) commenced in Suva on Monday October 7, 2019; with the Coordinator Shamima Ali, welcoming 32 women participants from Seychelles, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia & Fiji. Participants are part of a four-week course on Gender, Violence Against Women and Girls, Human Rights, Legal Literacy, Media and Advocacy.

With violence against women prevalence rates being one of the highest in the Pacific region and 1 in 3 women experiencing physical and/or sexual violence worldwide, the course aims to increase knowledge and better understanding of women on violence against women and girls within a feminist framework and develop skills in recognising and be able to respond sensitively to female survivors reporting violence.

The course further aims to have the participants develop and use lobbying and advocacy skills in promoting women’s human rights and to develop strategies and plans to promote gender equality and the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls at their workplaces, in the wider communities and in the respective countries.

The is the 36th RTP, a flagship program of FWCC which has been running since 1995 catering for training needs for Fiji and the Pacific region to a wide range of stakeholders.
